Employer Found Liable for Fatal Workplace Accident
At a hearing in early March 2008, the Industrial Magistrates Court in Nambour found a Sunshine Coast construction company guilty of breaching the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, leading to the death of a worker in October 2006.
At a worksite in Nambour, a bobcat was being used to fill a trench while workers inside the trench spread the soil. The bobcat moved too close to the edge of the trench causing the wall to collapse, crushing a worker to death.
The construction company was fined $60,000 and ordered to pay costs.
